Prospector 150 Quart Premium Expedition Cooler

The ultimate wilderness titan. From white-water river expeditions to once-in-a-lifetime big game elk hunts, the Prospector 150 is engineered to support your most epic off-grid adventures.

This high-capacity, heavy-duty ice chest delivers an astonishing 8 to 14+ days of ice retention depending on environmental conditions. Despite its colossal interior space, its low-profile, straight-walled footprint ensures it packs cleanly into truck beds, mounts flawlessly into standard 14-to-16-foot raft frames, and sits perfectly flush against boat transoms or inside center-console decks without wasting a single inch of valuable deck room.

Why It Dominates the Ultimate Long Haul:

    • True-to-Size Capacity Advantage: Don't get cheated by bloated industry naming conventions. The Prospector 150 holds a true 150 quarts of internal capacity - giving you significantly more real, usable storage space than the Brand "Y" 160 series cooler (which only holds roughly 140 quarts).

    • Massive Game & Marine Capacity: Specifically dimensioned to lay large fish flat (like Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi) or hold up to four bone-in elk quarters seamlessly, making it the definitive choice for remote back-country hunts and fishing tournament competitors alike.

    • Built-In Raft Frame Lip: Features a pronounced, integrated outer lip engineered to drop perfectly and securely into a 21-inch raft bay window (20.5" minimum clearance required).

    • Zero-Clearance Hinge: Gain unhindered, wide-open access to your provisions even when the cooler is shoved directly flush against a truck cab, heavy gear piles, or a boat hull.

    • Dual Smart-Drain Plugs: Equipped with extra-large, front and side drain plugs with standard garden hose threads. Drain your meltwater effortlessly from any angle without unlashing your rig.

    • IGBC Certified Bear-Resistant: Officially Bear Resistant Certified construction ensures your food and supplies stay completely safe from curious wildlife and campsite predators.

    • Scout, Stand, and Cast Ready: Built from ultra-rugged, rotomolded kayak plastic with a non-skid texture. Stand, stomp, and cast directly off the lid while fighting fish or scouting rapids without worrying about structural lid bowing.

    • Built for a Lifetime: Rotomolded from premium kayak-grade plastic and backed by Canyon's legendary, no-hassle, free-parts lifetime warranty.

📋 Specifications & Capacities:

  • Best Use: Multi-Week Rafting, Remote Overlanding, Big Game Hunting, and Offshore Deep-Sea Fishing

  • True Capacity: 150 Quarts (Fits large ocean fish, field-dressed big game, or a week of family rations)

  • Weight: 61 lbs (Empty)

  • Top Exterior Dimensions with Lip (LxWxH): 42.5" x 22.75" x 19.5"

  • Base Exterior Dimensions (LxWxH): 41.36" x 18.0"

  • Top Interior Dimensions (LxW):36 1/2" x 17 5/8"

💡 Pro-Tip: Optimize your back-country kitchen setup. The interior features a dual-level tracking system that simultaneously holds up to four of our heavy-duty wire cooler baskets (two baskets on two interior levels) to keep your dry foods completely separated from your ice slurry (accessories sold separately).

Took this on an August elk hunt for 13 days in AZ with temps ranging average 93-95 degrees elevation 5400 in the day and night temps dropping the lowest to 64 degrees. This doesn’t include traveling down to locations with lower elevation and increased temps. Some monsoon rains swung by though was light. The cooler was opened 3-4 times total through out the trip to check ice retention.

This was left in the back of my truck, and a tarp slightly over it with a small separator for air circulation.

Followed pre chillin it 24 hours prior to hunt and used 18 gallon jugs frozen with bagged ice on top for the 150.

I still had ice in most of the jugs after the 13 days and believe it could have gone on a bit longer.

This was great to see the quality function the way it did. I had paired this with a 65 qt. Unfortunately the canyon 65 qt it held qty 8 gallon jugs frozen for 4 days with ice dealing with the same environment and noted the ice and jugs had melted. It was cold on the 4th day though we stopped in town to make sure to get ice and maintain the box to be cooled. Because of this, i traveled more often to grab ice just for this.

I will keep the 65 for weekend plus camping, though when I have to go out for 10-14 day plus hunts I will keep the 150 and pair it with a larger sized cooler then the 65. Prospecting the 103, 125 or just get another 150 and call it a day. (Elk sized)

If requiring 200 qts plus I recommend the 150 all day and pair it with anything else other then the 65.

I spent more money on fuel to refill ice in the 65 than I hoped to be cautionary to make sure meat was as fresh and cool as could be.

Future, will be getting a cover for the truck etc and if lucky to find shade under the trees to minimize the sun beating on them day in and day out.

Hi Stephen, thank you for sharing your detailed experience! We're thrilled to hear how well the Prospector 150 Quart performed during your elk hunt. Your insights on ice retention and pairing with other coolers are really helpful. You might experiment with filling the 65 full up with ice but leaving it in the shade and testing the retention.

We appreciate your support and wish you many more successful adventures!

We loved our prospector 103 so much that we decided to get the big daddy. Love canyon coolers.

The 150 is an awesome cooler. Holds ice super well and with good cooler management I've had ice after 14 days in August. The design is well thought out to fit and rig to raft frames. I've had mine since the summer of 2019 and it's still going strong. I have three other Canyon Coolers and they are the only brand I will buy or recommend based on the quality and the customer service. No one else builds coolers this good and also stands behind their product.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to leave such a positive review of our Prospector 150 Quart Cooler. We're thrilled to hear that it has been able to hold ice for 14 days in the August heat and that you appreciate its design for raft frames. We take great pride in the quality of our coolers and always strive to provide top-notch customer service. We have the best clients on earth, thanks for clearly being one of them. Stay cool!

Fits great in my raft! Purchased for rafting/hunting trips. I haven't used this cooler yet but testing in my raft frame. Great fitment, applicable profile, intuitive tie downs and drains, quality handle grips.
I love the hinge set up, doesn't require extra space to open.

These coolers are fantastic. We pack ours full of frozen beef or fish and transport between San Diego, Ca and Abilene, Tx and the meat and/or fish is still frozen solid at the end of the trip. I've never had another cooler that keeps food frozen as Canyon Coolers. We have four hard coolers and one soft.

Love the mounting system of the larger canyon coolers. Fits perfect in my RMR 16'D. I believe it will also fit in a Hyside and NRS.

Holds ice for days. I ordered the Pro 150 and it shipped almost the same day. I can't wait to use it. Hunting season is coming soon. I am considering ordering a couple of more in the near future

Great design for fitting in my PRO frame. Love that it ties down without strapping the lid down as well. Better than my Yeti 160 for keeping cooler longer.

Looked like Ace Venture delivered the cooler but no damage to the cooler. It's just a well made bomber cooler.

I'm super happy with this cooler so far. The seal on this thing is impressive!! No need to even latch the cooler. Keeps Ice bottles for days. I haven't been able to take it on the river yet which is what I purchased it for, but it has been great for camping and hunting so far. One thing I really like in regards to the cooler is the warranty that Canyon Coolers is providing. I don't mind paying a premium for a product that is top of the line and I know that it is going to last since the warranty is bomber.

After owning 4 other coolers from a couple of very popular competing brands I can honestly say that this canyon cooler is a better value for the money.

The attention to detail with the integrated raft frame hangers, drain plug locations, multiple basket level capability, latches, and additional tie-down locations are what really set this cooler out from its competitors.

I also feel that if you're going to be buying a premium cooler that is supposed to last for years to come its warranty with it should also last for years to come.

Just spent 16 days on the Grand with a 210qt Canyon and we had ice near the end of the trip with temps above 105 degrees most days. Great performance!

Glad I purchased when I had the chance. This cooler holds a whole boned OUT 6x6 elk with ice. 9/12/21 Arizona unit 5A Hopi hunt archery. This cooler is a must for big game hunters. Keep in mind this cooler is meant to be stationary once placed as it is pretty heavy. Holds ice like crazy and cools meat fast. Every elk camp needs one. I will do a follow up video review on YouTube @ SouthRezternoutdoors in the coming months. I also purchased 2 baskets and a divider which doubles as a cutting board. Awesome products as well and is great accessory. Again this cooler holds a whole deboned 6x6 elk, all of it with ice. It's square flush design makes it easy for packing. This is my 6th cooler from canyon and they have never let me down. Warranty service is also bar none. Thanks canyon.

I spent a Sunday to a Saturday in Voyageurs National Park with this cooler in August. I did add some ice to it on Thursday. I initially had 5 frozen gallons of water as ice on Sunday but hadn't done anything to “ pre-cool” the cooler so in hind site I think I should have had one or two more chunks of block ice. None of the meat or dairy products I stored in it got warm or spoiled. This cooler is definitely a two man move once it's full. Also, for it to actually be “ bear proof” it has to have double locks. I bought mine online and had a local hardware store make a few extra copies of the key. I apologize for not having video or pics of the cooler on the trip, those would have been useful. Aside from the name tag coming off though this cooler met all my expectations and I recommend it to anyone looking for an IGBC cooler. Not having to put this in a bear locker and all the food that I was able to fit into it made a huge difference in the convenience of preparing meals for the other 16 people in camp with me. The price was easier to swallow when I consider the use I'm going to get out of this cooler over the next 20 years or more.
